Q: When am I eligible for the "New to Medicare Physical?"

A: You must have the physical within the first six months after you become eligible for Medicare.

Q: How do I go about making an appointment? What do I need to tell my doctor's office?

A: It is important when you call your doctor's office to state you would like an appointment for your "Welcome to Medicare" Preventive Physical Exam. This allows the scheduler to schedule the visit and other tests medicare will allow for this special exam.

Q: How far in advance should I schedule my appointment?

A: Depending on availability of appointments, it is a good idea to schedule your visit as soon as you know your Medicare eligibility date. Just remember the appointment date must be within the first six months of your eligibility date.

Q: Do I need to do anything to prepare for my physical?

A: Your doctor may send you a questionnaire to fill out and bring with you to the appointment. It is always a good idea to bring a list of medications you currently take.
